With the ever changing WIAA basketball playoffs, we are here to bring a bit of clarity to what Tri-City schools face this weekend.
In Class 4A, the Richland High boys and Chiawana girls play in District 5/8 title games tonight. The winner of their games advances to the regional tournament the following weekend.
The loser of their games is not out, though, getting a second chance at regionals Saturday.
The Chiawana boys and Walla Walla girls play elimination games today, with the winners playing the aforementioned losers for a spot in regionals.
In Class 3A, the Kennewick boys, and Kamiakin and Sunnyside girls play District 5/8 semifinal matchups tonight.
The winners of their three games earn regional berths, and district title berths. Those district title games will be in either Sunnyside, Kennewick or Spokane and will be played Saturday night, with both teams already having earned regional berths.
The losers of tonight’s Class 3A games will face off Saturday for the final regional berth, with the losers going home.
In Class 2A, the Grandview girls face an elimination game tonight, needing wins today and Saturday to advance to regionals.
In Class 1A, the Columbia (Burbank) boys and the Mabton girls need wins Saturday to get to regionals. A loss means their seasons are done.
In Class 2B, the Tri-Cities Prep boys can lock up a regionals berth win a win over Lind-Ritzville-Sprague today. A loss means an elimination game Saturday with a regional berth on the line.
