The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association released new classification numbers Friday and there are big changes on the way to for the Mid-Columbia Conference.
Both Kamiakin and Southridge are in Class 4A, which would give the Mid-Col six Class 4A schools and two Class 3A schools. Historically, the Kennewick school district has had all of its schools in the same classification, so Kennewick High might go up as well.
Sunnyside also has 4A numbers, which will change the dynamic of playoff berths in Eastern Washington. The Mid-Columbia Conference would have most the 4A schools of any league in the East, which would dramatically increase its state playoff berths.
The CWAC would see some movement as well, as West Valley (Yakima) is headed back to Class 3A, while Quincy comes back up to 2A keeping it a 10-team league.
