Kamiakin girls dominate 3A track meet

SPOKANE – Ellie Heiden has only been running the 100 meters for half of a season, but she already looks like a natural. The Kamiakin junior speedster cruised to three individual titles and a relay crown Saturday, helping the Braves once again destroy the field in the team race to capture the title at the Class 3A Eastern Washington Regional meet at Spokane Falls Community College. “It's definitely a new experience,” Heiden said of the 100. “Everything is a lot faster. My starts are more 200 and 400 starts. When I start the 100, I can see everyone's backs.” And that is a rare occurrence for Heiden, who rarely loses races and seems to never even trail in them. She won the 100 in 12.33, the 200 in 24.71 and the 400 in 55.26 Saturday. She also anchored the 4x200 to a winning time of 1:40.98.
