Emily Benson hit for the cycle to lead Kamiakin to an 8-4 victory against visiting Mt. Spokane on Tuesday during the first round of the Class 3A District 5/8 Tournament at Lawrence Scott Park.
Benson was 4-for-4 in the game, while Carlie Richards and Jenna Castilleja added two hits each for the Braves, who advance to the tournament championship against University at noon Saturday at Columbia Playfield in Richland.
The winner gets a berth to the state tournament, while the loser will get a second chance to qualify.

University 23, Kennewick 1: Gabriella Nava was 1-for-2 with a double, but the Lions ran into a buzzsaw in the first round of the District 5/8 Tournament in Spokane.
University High will play Kamiakin on Saturday with a state berth on the line.
“They will definitely be a contender for the state title,” Kennewick coach Randy Scott said. “They have the whole deal — the hitters, pitching, depth. They will be tough.”

Shadle Park 4, Southridge 3: The Highlanders scored the game-winning run in the top of the fifth inning to defeat the Suns in a Class 3A District 5/8 Tournament elimination game in Kennewick.
“They were a really good. It was a good game,” Southridge coach Eric Weisgerber said. “It was quite possibly the best game we have played all year and lost. This is what high school softball should be. I’m not disappointed in anyone’s performance.”
The Suns, who lose just two seniors to graduation, finished their season at 8-13.
