EUGENE -- Alexa Peterson and Janie Takeda each drove in two runs in a six-run first inning and the Oregon Ducks went on to defeat Portland State in the NCAA softball Eugene Regional on Thursday night.
Junior Jessica Moore, who was 27-12 this season, allowed three runs on six hits with seven strikeouts in the victory for the 11th seeded Ducks (40-15). Karman Holladay drove in all three runs for the Vikings (27-24), with an RBI single in the third and a two-run double in the fifth.
Portland State’s Anna Bertrand, who went 21-11 this season with a 1.71 ERA, gave up all six Oregon runs in the first.
In the earlier game Thursday, BYU defeated Mississippi State 4-3. The Cougars (44-13) play the Ducks before the Vikings play the Bulldogs (33-23) today in the double-elimination regional.
