The Richland Bombers (15-9) and Central Valley Bears (19-3) boys basketball teams meet at 6 p.m. today at Spokane Falls Community College and share a total of 51 state appearances, but only one will add to their total this time.
The teams met at Art Dawald Gym in late December, with the Bears pulling out a 57-55 victory after Turner's potential game-winning 3-pointer hit off the front rim.
The good news for Richland is that the Bombers are much better, having found the chemistry they were looking for early in the season. Baker and Turner have found their scoring rhythm, and Streufert is maturing with every game.
Richland showed plenty of toughness by eliminating defending 4A state champion Gonzaga Prep in a regional play-in game Tuesday at home. The Bombers are 9-3 at home and 6-6 on the road.
Never miss a local story.
The bad news for Richland is that Central Valley is better, too. After dropping their first two games of the year, the Bears have won 19 of 20, including their last 16 in a row. Central Valley hasn't been to state since 2006, and it's hungry to get back.
Two of the Bears' three losses, however, have come at home. They will have to keep the intensity up for all four quarters against an ambitious Bombers squad.
