The Southridge Suns needed to rest returning all-CBBN 3A guard Matt Mendenhall, who sat out Tuesday night's nonleague game against Hermiston with tendonitis and shin splints in his right leg.
Turns out the Suns didn't need him.
Senior post Brad Scott led the way for Southridge, collecting a game-high 22 points and nine rebounds in a 69-50 win over the Bulldogs in Kennewick. He also hit 10 of 15 shots from the free throw line to help cement a solid second-half effort.
Southridge took a 38-36 lead into the locker room at halftime but outscored Hermiston 31-14 in the second half for the nonleague home win. The Suns outrebounded the Bulldogs 33-18.
Never miss a local story.
"It was a great team defensive effort. We played really well in the second half," said Southridge coach Jason DeVere. "Brad was very good inside the paint. He simplified his game tonight."
DeVere said he expects Mendenhall to return to the court for the Suns' CBBN opener against visiting Sunnyside.
