The Mid-Columbia Athletes of the Week for November 11, 2011.
Devyn Humphreys, Senior, Walla Walla
Never miss a local story.
Last week had its highs and lows for Humphreys and her Blue Devils teammates.
The Walla Walla volleyball team fell a set short of advancing to the Class 4A state tournament, falling to Central Valley in five sets in a regional tournament match.
“We gave it everything we had,” Humphreys said. “So it was a good bittersweet kind of feeling.”
What wasn’t bittersweet for Humphreys was beating Richland — and then Wenatchee — to win the CBBN 4A district tournament late last month.
“Beating Richland was something we’ve been wanting to do for a long time. They are so good,” she said. “Winning the district championship was just amazing. That was my favorite volleyball memory for sure.”
The win against the Bombers was the first in Humphreys’ three-year varsity career.

Now the real season begins for Anderson and his teammates: The playoffs.
Prosser hosts Spokane-West Valley at 1 p.m. Saturday hoping to make up for a poor showing against the last Spokane school it played — East Valley, which hammered it in the 2010 quarterfinals.
