Just a couple of quick cross country notes.
First, I must have had a brain freeze when I was putting together a quick overview for the area cross country scene earlier this week. I forgot to include Southridge senior Rachel Dahl in a list of runners to keep an eye on.
Let's see ... All she did as a junior was place consistently in the top 10 throughout the season, then finish fifth at district, eighth at regional and 19th at the 3A state meet, easily the best finish for a Suns girl at state ever.
This season, she placed seventh at the Bellarmine Invite, was fourth in a CBBN 3A meet to break up Kamiakin's bid for a perfect race and match the fastest time among three races at the Apple Ridge Run.
Never miss a local story.
That's credential aplenty to rate as one of the area's best.
Second, on a relatively quiet weekend on the cross country scene, couldn't help but notice Wenatchee's Jacob Smith winning the Jim Danner Invite -- the premier event at the Nike Pre-Nationals -- in 15:10.19, about 2 1/2 seconds of California runner Dylan Blankenbaker.
Smith and Kamiakin standout Anthony Armstrong will get to square off over the next two weekends at Sunfair and the Richland Invite. You don't have to be a big fan of running to appreciate this matchup.
