THE DALLES -- Hermiston's Riley Humphrey lobbed the shot put 48 feet, 71/2 inches and spun the discus 134 feet, 10 inches, and Hope Butler whipped the javelin 121-feet, 9 inches as the Bulldogs boys and girls track squads each brought home the gold on Saturday at the Columbia River Conference District championships in The Dalles.
On the boys' side, Hermiston edged nearest threat Pendleton by 28 points -- 196.5 to 168.5 -- and in the girls' meet the Bulldogs' point total outweighed second-place Pendleton by more than 100 -- 255 to 154.5.
Hermiston's boys also had top finishes in the pole vault courtesy of Cameron Meyers (12-06) and the 3,000-meter and 1,500-meter races, thanks to Eduardo Juarez (9:04.16) and Javier Velasco (4:12.80).
Hermiston's Mariah Delepierre and Abby Johnston placed first in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles to add to the girls' accomplishments. Delepierre finished her race in 16.52 seconds, while Johnston finished in 46.81 seconds.
