FINAL Prairie 53, Kamiakin 41: Braves rally falls short and the best they can finish is third.
Fourth quarter (3:04 left) Prairie 49, Kamiakin 38: The Braves had just pulled within 9 and had the ball, but turned it over and gave up two free throws at the other end.
Kamiakin has played very well in the fourth, but are running out of time.
Fourth quarter (5:55 left) Prairie 45, Kamiakin 32: A bit of a rally for the Braves, pulling within 13. They need a lot of stops in a row, though.
End of third quarter Prairie 43, Kamiakin 24: The Braves just can't solve the Falcons. I guess this is why the Falcons are in the tournament every year. They just send waves of players onto the court and hit 3-pointers and play stifling defense.
Third quarter (3:39 left) Prairie 33, Kamiakin 20: Prairie is starting to get its outside shooting going and that leaves the Braves in trouble.
HALF Prairie 25, Kamiakin 18: Braves close on an 8-2 run as they finally figure out the press and use their athleticism to blow by it, getting Khadidja Toure to the basket.
Kaylee Nelson continues to be a monster rebounding and sister Courtney Nelson is playing solid defense as the Braves have made a game of this semifinal.
Second quarter (4:47 left) Prairie 21, Kamiakin 10: Sira Toure hits a long two-pointer and the Braves seem to be settling down, but they need to get going offensively soon if they want to get back in this game.
End of First quarter Prairie 19, Kamiakin 6: Prairie hits a 3-pointer to close the quarter and this game is dangerously close to blowout zone. The Braves need to settle down and not let the press rattle them.
First quarter (1:27 left) Prairie 14, Kamiakin 6: The Braves just can't break the pressure early and it has been turnover city as a result.
The few looks the Braves have gotten have not resulted in baskets.
First quarter (5:40 left) Prairie 7, Kamiakin 4: First observation is that the refs aren't allowing nearly the physical play they were yesterday. All three of Kamiakin's post players all ready have fouls.
Prairie is running a tremendous fullcourt press, so the Braves will need to take care of the ball today.
TIP-OFF: Here we go. Prairie doesn't have anyone who can match the size of Larson, so the Braves could have a similar advantage to the opener against Glacier Peak underneath.
3:47 p.m. — Whoa, the Kamiakin cheerleaders showed up. Still no band. And only about 50 people here to watch. I guess everyone is either following these updates or listening to KONA. Pretty weak, Tri-Cities. Pretty weak.
3:37 p.m. — This will be a contrast of histories today.
Kamiakin hasn't been in a semifinal game since 1996, while Prairie has been in nine of the last 15.
The Braves have one state championship (1985), the Falcons have five.
Kamiakin has only been to state once since the turn of the century (2008), while Prairie has been every year.
The Braves are 19-6 on the season and didn't get much love in the state top 10 polls. The Falcons are undefeated and have been ranked No. 1 at times this season.
3:32 p.m. — The Kamiakin-Prairie Class 3A state tournament semifinal will get underway a few minutes late as there was a fantastic finish between Bellarmine Prep and Edmonds-Woodway just now in a Class 4A consolation game.
Nearly got to see a Christian Laettner with Duke finish, but a girl from Prep blocked it with .06 seconds left.
Anyway, Kamiakin is on the court warming up and Prairie is making its way to the floor.
