Noteworthy: Two-time defending champion Eastlake and Gig Harbor have won the last five team titles, and no team from Eastern Washington has stood atop the podium since North Central in 2001. Top-ranked Ike seeks its first title since going back-to-back in 1999-2000. ... The returning veterans -- Fields was second last year, Timmons fourth and Mires fifth -- will have their hands full with two young guns. Kosykh and Olson finished one-two at the Wes-King District, two seconds apart but well in front of the field, including more than a minute ahead of Fields. ... On the local scene, Nelson, Jones and Mahoney all have a shot to finish top 10.

Noteworthy: Once again, this could be the most exciting race of the day, among teams and individuals. Neale and Knight finished a second apart last year, while Shadle edged Glacier Peak by eight points. After Kamiakin and Shadle went to a tiebreaker at regionals, it should be a strong three-way battle. ... Knight has yet to lose a race this year, including her win at Bob Firman and a 19-second victory over Weitz at regionals. ... Locally, Hegarty and Rexus could be top 10, while Fletcher, Kaylee Brooks and Dahl could be top 20. ... Butler is back at state for the first time after qualifying as a freshman.Class 2A

Noteworthy: Sehome is the four-time defending champion, and a 21-point win over Bellingham at regionals is an indication No. 5 is in the sights. ... Marina Roberts looks to keep the title in the family after finishing second to her sister, a two-time champion, last season.

Noteworthy: King's has won the last four titles and seven of nine. But that run could be ended by Riverside, which topped second-ranked Omak by 18 points in last week's regional. ... Meyers is going for the three-peat and likely won't have much trouble, having won last year's race by 1 minute, 36 seconds over Rice, her teammate. She has won every race this season and has 20 wins in her career.

Noteworthy: The four-time defending champions blitzed the field by 58 points last season and figure to make it 5-for-5 since the Bs split off from the 1A. ... Willson shocked the field last season, winning by 47 seconds over a veteran field to give herself state titles in cross country, soccer, basketball and track.
