Several locals whisked, spun, twisted, tapped and turned their way to glory Saturday at the District 8 Dance/Drill Championships at Ferris High School in Spokane.
Claiming top spots in the 4A competition were Pasco’s hip hop and show crews, and Chiawana’s pom team. Kamiakin claimed gold in the 1A/2A/3A pom and hip hop categories.
All of those teams qualify for the state competition in two weeks at the Yakima Valley SunDome. The 4A competition will be held March 23, with the 1A/2A/3A event the following day.
Also heading to state are: Hanford dance (third at districts), pom (fourth) and hip hop (fourth); Richland hip hop (second) and dance (second); Pasco pom (second); and Chiawana jazz (not reported).
Individually, Pasco’s Paris Jessen placed second and Chiawana’s Megan Mattson third in the individual Drill Down competition. Both will compete at state.
Hanford was the highest local finisher at last year’s state championships, taking third in dance and hip hop.
