This time, Carl Underwood left no doubt that the 4A Mid-Columbia Conference golf title was his.
A year after losing the title to Richland teammate Drew McCullough in a playoff, Underwood followed his first-round 76 with a 1-under-par 71 to capture medalist honors Tuesday at Canyon Lakes Golf Course in Kennewick.
Underwood, a sophomore, had a two-day total of 147, three shots in front of teammate Nick Yamauchi (150). The Bombers earned four of the five state berths, with Walla Walla’s Tyler Morrison (157) grabbing the other.
“Walla Walla has a good group,” said Richland coach John Richardson. They won the league this year. We were fortunate to win district and have four going to state. Our kids showed up today and played better than the competition.”
The state tournament is May 27-28 at Creek of Qualchan in Spokane. Teams will have a practice round May 26.
It is the sixth consecutive district title for the Bombers, who also will send Evan Hattori (156) and Rhett Levin (161) to state.
“Nick played solid both days, and Evan came back with a 74 today to earn a state berth,” Richardson said.
