The defending NWAACC champion Peninsula Pirates earned a return trip to the NWAACC men's championship soccer game, getting a goal in each half in a 2-0 shutout win over Walla Walla on Saturday at the Starfire Soccer Complex in Tukwila.
Angel Guerra made two saves for Peninsula, which won its first-ever NWAACC title last year.
Ashkanov Apollon scored first in the 22nd minute off an assist from Alex Martinez. Victor Sanchez added an insurance goal in the 90th minute, when Walla Walla was pushing up to equalize.
The Warriors finished their fifth appearance at the semifinals in the last nine seasons.
The Pirates have a chance to be the first program to have both men’s and women’s teams win NWAACC soccer championships in two consecutive seasons. The Peninsula women also beat Walla Walla by an identical 2-0 score in the women’s semifinals.

Peninsula women 2, Walla Walla 0: Bronte Fitzsimmons had quite a memorable game, assisting on the Pirates’ first goal and scoring the second before being ejected from the game with a red card in the 60th minute.
Despite playing a man down for the final 30 minutes, Peninsula still held on with a stout effort on defense. Goalkeeper Emily Flynn made three saves for the shutout.
The Warriors, who returned to the NWAACC women’s semifinals for the eighth time in the last nine seasons, got four saves from keeper Aiko Johnson.
