Columbia Basin College 7-4, Walla Walla 0-6: Brenda Rodriguez fired a five-hit shutout and was 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate as the Hawks topped the visiting Warriors in the opener of an NWAACC East doubleheader Tuesday.
Maddie Chambers was 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs at the plate for CBC, while Lacey Padilla was 2-for-3.
“Brenda had her best pitching performance of the year,” CBC coach Adrian Ochoa said.
In the nightcap, the Hawks made three errors but still rallied to take a 4-3 lead, before serving up a three-run homer in the fifth. CBC loaded the bases in the seventh, but couldn’t score.
Never miss a local story.
“We had some opportunities to tie it, but just couldn’t get the big hit with runners in scoring position,” Ochoa said. “That has been our kryptonite the last couple of doubleheaders, so hopefully we can find someone to step up and get that big hit when we need it.”
