The Columbia Basin College baseball team was hoping to grab some momentum Sunday for their NWAACC East home opener against Yakima Valley on Wednesday.
Instead it was Edmonds who grabbed the momentum, sweeping the Hawks 11-1 and 10-8 during a nonleague doubleheader in Pasco.
"We never really strung anything together all weekend," said CBC skipper Steve Farrington. "On Saturday we left 17 runners on base. I wouldn't be surprised if we did the same today."
Connor McKeever allowed just two hits and a run over seven innings for the Tritons in Game 1. Taylor Brennan and Sam Parris each had a home run and three RBIs for Edmonds.
In Game 2, CBC took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Zach Rapacz hit an RBI double and scored on a double play grounder. But the Tritons countered with three more runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead.
The Hawks tied it at 7 in the bottom of the seventh but committed back-to-back-to-back errors on bunt plays as Edmonds regained the lead 9-7.
"We're only as good as our next opportunity. That's what I told the kids," Farrington said. "We're looking forward to starting league play."
