* 1989 -- Lenny Ayres struck out 12 batters to help Kennewick beat host Moses Lake 6-0 to salvage a Big Nine doubleheader split. The Chiefs won the opener 4-3 as Moses Lake's Mike Rios drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Rios also struck out 10 Lions to raise his record to 2-1.
* 1984 -- Sophomores Cheryl Filipy and Wendy Badbada led Richland to an 8-1 softball win over host Walla Walla, with Filipy tossing a two-hitter and Badbada hitting safely three times. Badbada also had a home run on the day as the Blue Devils earned a split with a 5-4 win in the nightcap of the Big Nine Conference doubleheader.
* 1971 -- Excellent weather in the Columbia Basin made the area the best fishing spot in the state as the trout season opened on this date in 1971. Fish biologist Merrill Spence estimated a total of 25,000 fishermen caught 126,000 fish under sunny skies and mild temperatures.
