* 1980 -- Big Nine baseball coaches, grousing about the split of the league into North and South divisions, say Richland is the front-runner followed by Kamiakin and Kennewick. Bombers coach Scott Woodward likes the look of his pitching staff, which includes seniors Rod Jochen and Roger Chambers and junior Jamie Archibald.
* 1971 -- Gary Rollinger struck out 14 and walked one for a three-hitter, carrying Kiona-Benton to a 1-0 win over White Swan. On the same day, Wapato erupted for seven runs in the first inning and knocked off Kamiakin 9-3. "They were all good shots," Braves coach Tom Morgan said. "We have no excuse."
* 1952 -- Plans for a four-team Little League baseball organization in Kennewick were announced. League president Cal Thrapp said boys age 8-12 were welcome for tryouts, and the teams would play on a converted softball field near the junior high, with the possibility of playing some of the games -- particularly the championship -- at night under the lights.
