NASCAR Fans Praise RCR For Suspending Kyle Busch's No. 8 Car
As NASCAR fans continue mourning the passing of Kyle Busch, his Richard Childress Racing (RCR) team is faced with a decision regarding their use of his stylized No. 8 car. It seems that the decision was easy enough.
On Friday, RCR announced that they will suspend all use of the No. 8 car and will instead use the No. 33 car as their full-time vehicle instead. RCR stated that the No. 8 has become synonymous with Busch and a symbol for fans. The team said that the car will be reserved exclusively for Busch's son Brexton should he ever choose to join NASCAR.
"Richard Childress Racing has elected to suspend use of the No. 8 and will run the No. 33 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and beyond. Kyle Busch was instrumental in the design of RCR's stylized No. 8 and it has become synonymous with Kyle and an important symbol for his fans and the NASCAR industry. No one can carry it forward to the level that he did. The No. 8 is reserved and ready for Brexton Busch when he is ready to go NASCAR racing," the team announced.
Well Done
Fans praised RCR for their class act move.
"As awful as it is, RCR knows how to handle tragedy better than any one else. An excellent choice and way to handle this," one user replied on X.
"I know some may disagree. But, I really do like and support this decision. It just feels right…" wrote another.
"Absolutely the right decision by RCR," wrote a third.
"A very classy move by RCR. Same thing they did back in 2001 when they suspended the use of The 3."
"The amount of respect I just gained for this racing organization RCR you just gained a new fan!👏🏼 10000000% the best decision you could have made."
Busch joined RCR in 2023 and promptly christened his new car with a win in just his second drive as a member of the team. In four seasons with RCR, Busch won three races and enjoyed dozens of top-five finishes.
Our hearts go out to Busch's family and friends.
