Zipping through the Week 6 picks

Got about 20 minutes before gotta head to my kid's soccer practice, then to Fiker for the Ellensburg-Prosser showdown.

Can I knock out my picks by then? We shall see.

Went 13-2 last week, missing only Sunnyside's stunner over Pasco and TC Prep's come-from-behind win over Lyle-Wishram. Needed a week like that. That makes my season mark 52-19.

Eastmont at Hanford

It's Homecoming for the Falcons, which stresses out a coach to no end -- what with all the distractions surrounding the festivities. Throw in that Eastmont has been a good road team this fall, and it can't afford a loss if it wants to lock up the Cascade's No. 4 seed. Eastmont 28-23

Richland at Chiawana

Two desperate teams that know that a loss pretty much knocks it out of the playoff picture. The Bombers' depth should prove the key in this one, because Chiawana has faded in the second half a couple times this season. Richland 24-18

Walla Walla at Kamiakin

I picked the Blue Devils to win the league title in the preseason -- that was before we knew Eisenhower would finally live up to the potential it's shown the past couple of years. But they are on a roll now, and they have the offensive balance the Braves have yet to show on a consistent basis this season. Wa-Hi 33-26

Davis at Sunnyside

Two weeks ago, I was ready to pen this in as a Pirates win. Now, with the Grizzlies' big win at Pasco, I'm going to lock it in the other way. Sunnyside 28-21

Moses Lake at Wenatchee

The Panthers' final road block to the Columbia title are the Chiefs, who pulled away in the second half last week to beat Kennewick. They'll prove a tough foe for Wenatchee, but at the Apple Bowl, the Panthers will pull it out. Wenatchee 26-20

Hermiston at Crook County

The Bulldogs have got to be mad about dropping a close one last week to The Dalles-Wahtonka. They look to be the better team in this one by far. Hermiston 35-7

East Valley at Othello

The Red Devils defense looks much improved lately, but they haven't gone up against a running attack like the Huskies. Othello 35-14

Ellensburg at Prosser

The Bulldogs are bucking the trend in the CWAC toward more run-oriented attacks this season. The Mustangs have a bevy of running backs in their stable, and they'll keep it close, but in the end the Bulldogs get their revenge for recent close calls. Ellensburg 34-25

Connell at Columbia (Burbank)

The Eagles will be too strong for the rebuilding Coyotes. Connell 48-7

Kiona-Benton at Royal

Same here. The Bears are going through first-year coaching pains, and the Knights will roll. Royal 44-8

River View at Wahluke

If this were in Finley, it'd be a lead-pipe cinch pick for the Panthers. But it's in Mattawa, so make this a wobbly-kneed pick for them. River View 28-21

Tri-Cities Prep at Sunnyside Christian

Will Hoppes will be back at QB this week. As if the Jaguars needed any more of an edge against the first-year Knights program. Prep 58-8

Whew! Made it with seven minutes to spare.

See ya under the Friday night lights ...
