Rankled rankings

It wasn't just particular teams that were exposed this week.

My votes in the AP football rankings also were exposed, with certain teams obviously overrated on my part and others slighted.

Here's hoping this week's ballot corrects those mistakes. Let me know what you think:

4A

1, Skyline. 2, Bothell. 3, Auburn. 4, Jackson. 5, Central Valley. 6, Gonzaga Prep. 7, Ferris. 8, Wenatchee. 9, Curtis. 10, Eastlake.

Comment I'd missed CV's 4-0 start in the GSL, although it has yet to play Ferris or G-Prep, but did beat University, which then went on to beat G-Prep. In other words, the GSL's top teams are feasting upon each other. Considering last year's domination by the GSL teams, I put all three of its top dogs ahead of the CBBN's best team, Wenatchee, which proved itself with its 27-6 victory over Southridge.

3A

1, Lakes. 2, Union. 3, Bellevue. 4, Liberty (Renton). 5, O'Dea. 6, Timberline. 7, Mount Spokane. 8, Meadowdale. 9, Juanita. 10, Glacier Peak.

Comment I'd always thought the 3A Liberty was in Issaquah. Hmmm. Mount Spokane did get thwacked -- but by Ferris, and I still think the Wildcats are the best 3A team this side of the mountains.

2A

1, Ellensburg. 2, Archbishop Murphy. 3, Lynden. 4, Interlake. 5, Othello. 6, Prosser. 7, Burlington-Edison. 8, W.F. West (Chehalis). 9, Selah. 10, West Valley (Spokane).

Comment No changes this week as all the top 10 teams won.

1A

1, Connell. 2, Montesano. 3, Cascade Christian. 4, Cashmere. 5, Zillah. 6, Royal. 7, Cascade (Leavenworth). 8, Orting. 9, Port Townsend. 10, Onalaska.

Comment Yes, I saw that Montesano has yet to be scored upon this season. But I still think Connell's wins over Othello, Cashmere and River View count for quite a bit. The team that jumped on my ballot is Zillah, which got a big road win at Royal.

2B

1, Colfax. 2, Asotin. 3, La Salle. 4, Adna. 5, Napavine. 6, Naselle. 7, Tacoma Baptist. 8, Waitsburg-Prescott. 9, White Swan. 10, South Bend.

Comment Not a lot of movement here either. Only South Bend (which lost to Tacoma Baptist) saw a major shuffle, going from 7 to 10.

As usual, the volleyball and cross country associations also released their rankings this week.

The cross country rankings see few changes this week, although with Sunfair this weekend, I'm sure there will be some shuffling next week.

The volleyball rankings, meanwhile, saw some major shuffling in 4A, with Richland joining the top 10:

4A

1, Mead. 2, Graham-Kapowsin. 3, Olympia. 4, Southridge. 5, Kamiakin. 6, Edmonds-Woodway. 7, Curtis. 8, Eisenhower. 9, Richland. 10, Jackson.

3A

1, Bishop Blanchet. 2, Eastside Catholic. 3, Seattle Prep. 4, Mount Spokane. 5, Auburn Mountainview. 6, Timberline. 7, Meadowdale. 8, Shorecrest. 9, Mount Si. 10, Enumclaw.

2A

1, Burlington-Edison. 2, Archbishop Murphy. 3, Black Hills. 4, Selah. 5, Tumwater. 6, Fife. 7, Woodland. 8, Pullman. 9, Colville. 10, West Valley (Spokane).

1A

1, King's. 2, Castle Rock. 3, Lynden Christian. 4, Cascade (Leavenworth). 5, Cedar Park Christian. 6, Onalaska. 7, Annie Wright. 8, Bellevue Christian. 9, Royal. 10, Chelan.

2B

1, LaConner. 2, Colfax. 3, Ocosta. 4, Riverside Christian. 5, Kittitas. 6, Adna. 7, Tekoa-Oakesdale. 8, Toutle Lake. 9, Lind-Ritzville. 10, Bear Creek.

1B

1, LaCrosse-Washtucna. 2, Wilson Creek. 3, Colton. 4, St. John-Endicott. 5, Moses Lake Christian. 6, Crescent. 7, Almira/Coulee-Hartline. 8, Northport. 9, Klickitat. 10, North Sound Christian.

Til next time ...
