Baseball coaches pick all-star team

The Washington State Baseball Coaches Association announced its all-state teams Tuesday.

The coaches' teams differ from those selected by the media -- and coordinated by yours truly -- in that they do not select their team by position, but rather select a number of players at each classification regardless of position.

I'm working right now on getting votes from around the state to tabulate the all-state teams for the spring team sports -- boys soccer, baseball and softball. My goal is to have it done before the end of June.

Anyway, the coaches' 4A first team includes Richland SS Brett Jacobs, 1B Cody Shepherd and C Josh Rapacz, as well as Southridge IF Tyler Roberts. On the second team are Kamiakin 1B Shawn O'Brien and Southridge OF Andrew Mendenhall, our newly-minted Herald Boys Athlete of the Year.

The 2A first team includes Othello P Marc Garza. The 1A-B team has Connell IF Nate Eppich on the first team and Kiona-Benton P/OF Corey Brundridge on the second team.
