Spoke too soon about the CBBN coaches

OK, yesterday I poked fun at the CBBN soccer coaches for their generous all-league voting.

I should have waited until today, when I got the baseball and softball balloting.

The CBBN Cascade softball coaches ended up with a tie in voting for outfielders. Rather than break the tie, they decided to put all six players on the first team. No second-teamers. Hmmmmmm

But that wasn't nearly as bad as their brethren in the baseball world. The Cascade coaches just wanted to spread the wealth as much as they could.

Two first-team 1B. Two 2B. Two 3B. Two SS. Two utility players. Co-MVPs. Co-Pitchers of the Year. And for the second team, four second basemen.

I feel badly for Hanford 2B Dan Scheibe. He was the only one of the seven in the league not to be honored in some way by the coaches.

Kamiakin coach Rex Easley (the division's coach of the year) said, "It doesn't cost anything to recognize kids."

OK, that's true. But you can cheapen the recognition.

Til next time ...
