GEORGE -- TV on the Radio did for Day 2 what Animal Collective did on Saturday — they got the party started. No group thus far has drawn a bigger crowd (that changed now that I'm watching Nine Inch Nails set up without an empty patch to park anywhere).
It was deserved too. I wasn't expecting too much after seeing their recent performance on "Saturday Night Live," but it just doesn't translate on TV ... or the radio I suppose. Live they fed off the crowd engaging everyone to dance with their sludgy beats and droning guitar.
Like a lot of bands here that use electronic backing or layering on their sound, I've been surprised to see how well it translates to an outdoor stage, when it seems more at home pumping out of headphones. That is everyone except Animal Collective who was just mind-numbingly loud.
