SASQUATCH 09: Bands at the top of the bill deliver

By Jeremy Dutton

Karen O is a goddess of performance. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer commands the stage like the greats do. Her movements are completely off the wall like Mick Jagger's or Michael Stipe's, but like them her movements fall completely in line with the band's music.

Dressed in her trademark bright bold outfit she sported a hot pink glove that revealed itself ot be glow in the dark as the sun went down. The blistering set took on new hit "Zero" and other high-energy tunes. They then slowed it down, rolling out "Maps" (which is about as close as the group gets to an actual 'love' song). But this version was markedly different. Instead of the hgih pitched opening of the rhythmic guitar, they made it acoustic. And Karen O matched the mood by almost whispering at points.

This was the best set of Day 1.
