The Hives make a hot afternoon hotter

GEORGE — The Hives, a Swedish garage rock/ punk band, were the first major band to play the main stage Monday at Sasquatch.

Lead singer Pelle Almqvist and Co. went full bore through cuts from their last three albums.

And while Almquist's cocky antics might seem over the top for any other band, for The Hives the swagger in the song justifies it. He danced all over the stage and in a small pit separating the crowd from the stage.

About 2:30 it was starting to get pretty hot, and Almquist let the crowd know he was feeling it.

"Jesus Christ, it's hot out here," he said. "But we must not compromise because our special outfits (not so breathable black suits) contain our special powers."
