Briefs: McNary refuge plans second Saturday event

McNary National Wildlife Refuge’s second Saturday event begins at 9 a.m. today at the refuge pond.
This month’s event will feature children’s games and miniature nature safaris.
The event is free and those attending should park in the lot across from the willow tree on Lake Road.

Teens can learn to kayak during adventure clinic
Youth ages 12-17 are invited to participate in the Teen Adventure Series: Kayak Clinics from 9-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, July 21-30, at Schlagel Park, S. Fourth and Washington in Pasco.
Participants will learn paddling techniques and other kayaking skills needed to travel area rivers. Cost is $36.

Herald seeking reader outdoor photographs
Our stockpile is low, and we’re looking for good outdoor photographs to run as a Reader Snapshot on the weekly outdoor page.
If it is an electronic file, we’d prefer it be a high-quality JPG, RGB file of at least 250 DPI (resolution). Anglers must release white sturgeon
Anglers must release all white sturgeon caught between The Dalles and Bonneville dams on the Columbia River beginning today through Dec. 31, according to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Spawning sanctuaries in The Dalles and John Day reservoirs are closed to sturgeon fishing through July 31.
