You know you want to ...

By the Herald editorial staff

This message about running is not for runners. It is for the couch-warming wannabes.

Mark your calendar for Dec. 19. The Cable Bridge Run is just over nine weeks away and you, too, can run the 5K.

No, you say? Well we say yes!

Statistics tell us 59 percent of adults in Washington are overweight or obese and 21 percent of our high school students are overweight or at risk of becoming overweight.

If you're in that category -- and most of us are -- you've probably been meaning to make some changes to your lifestyle.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Eat less. Move more. We've all heard it.

So why not?

Go to podrunner.com and download the free podcast on interval training called First Day to 5K. It will give you several 30-minute workouts for your iPod designed to be used three days a week for the next nine weeks.

What convenient timing!

Not only will you be ready to run a 5K the week of our iconic Cable Bridge Run, but you also will establish an endorphin-raising habit just in time for our two months of gray skies.

The Tri-Cities boasts 300 days of sunshine a year, so when those 65 overcast ones roll in, a little mood lift definitely is in order.

Exercise makes you feel better physically, mentally and emotionally. And it's great preventive medicine.

Come on, folks. See you at the starting line.
