I was shocked and to see the Herald endorse Mike Killian’s opponent for the Franklin County Clerk. I shook my head in disbelief as I read the reasons why. I recall the Herald expressing their dissatisfaction that he chose to serve his country and serve the county that elected him simultaneously when he was called to active duty. It seems that the Herald has been waiting to write the editorial endorsing Mike’s opponent ever since then, regardless of who that opponent was. I have spoken with several of Mike’s colleagues about how it worked while he was over seas. Everyone I spoke with indicated that he dis an exemplary job serving our county while away.
The Herald points to the fact that his budget for his office hardly changed while he was away, as though that is some sort of indication that he was shirking his duties. To me, what that means is that he runs an efficient office. Wouldn’t it be nice the federal government was able to keep their budgets the same instead of dramatically inflating them from year to year?
