Timothy Dalton is our choice for Position 2 on the Benton County Commission. He is enthusiastic about representing all of the citizens of Benton County. Even though as a county we voted 56.6 percent against the legalization of marijuana operations in Washington State, this industry is being imposed on us where we live, work, and play. The current Benton County Commission abdicated to the State Liquor Control Board, providing for no setbacks from rural residences, school bus stops, barns, animals and salmon habitats in rural neighborhoods. Their stated reasons were that (1) they could not overturn the law and (2) they were afraid of lawsuits. Other counties have done due diligence in consideration of juveniles, public safety and the environment, and we expect no less from our elected representatives in Benton County.
Timothy Dalton agrees that marijuana fields with eight-foot fences, security cameras and concertina wire do not belong in residential neighborhoods. One only has to browse the news to understand that crime associated with marijuana is often violent, and that salmon waterways are threatened by this industry. As a first step to preserving our way of life in Benton County, we are voting for Timothy Dalton on Nov. 4.
