Proposition 14-7 will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot in Benton County. What is it and what will it do? It is an advisory ballot to the Benton County Commissioners to create a Conservation Futures Fund.
What is a conservation futures fund? It is used to acquire land from willing sellers to create parks, open space, trails, and to protect habitat and water quality.
Why do we need it now? The popularity of Badger Mountain has demonstrated the public demand for outdoor recreational opportunities as the number of visits on the mountain has gone from 30,000 to 200,000 in the past five years.
How much will it cost? About $12 per year for the typical Benton County household. And, the fund would be used to attract matching state and federal funds that are currently going to other counties, thus multiplying our small investment many times over.
Never miss a local story.
Nov. 4 presents a unique opportunity to voters in Benton County to act now to protect our county's land, water, wildlife and recreational opportunities not only for us, but for future generations. Once it's gone, it's gone forever.
Please join me in voting yes on Prop 14-7.
