I find the critics of Tony Hillerman grasping at straws in their attempt to discredit Tony for moving to Benton County so he could run for assessor. It's on par with a police officer pulling you over and scolding you because you didn't go over the speed limit! Besides, is where you have lived what this race is all about? Or is this an obvious smoke screen to avoid looking at Tony's almost 22-year work history in the Benton County assessor's office that reveals his integrity, loyalty, competency, responsibility, experience, skills, abilities and working knowledge of the job.
Tony is the right candidate for this job.
I don't know about you, but I am disgusted with how the character assassination tactics in politics today has become the accepted norm. As a voter, I want to know whether the candidates have the experience, skills and abilities to perform the job of the office that we the people are electing them to.
I'm not saying character doesn't matter. But one thing I have noticed about the letters for Tony is that they never even mention his opponents, let alone criticize them. They just talk about Tony, and I like that.
Never miss a local story.
