U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings' retirement created a scramble of activity in Central Washington.
State Sen. Jana Holmquist, the most effective voice our area has had in Olympia in years, is hoping to replace Hastings and serve as our congresswoman. I'm sorry to lose her as our senator.
As effective and capable as she is, and with all she accomplished for our part of the state, she is not the handpicked successor the Republican Party is backing. She must not have been an obedient servant of the party. She listens too much to her constituents instead of the well-entrenched Republican good ol' boys club. They have chosen to back a more compliant member of their club. He is polished, well spoken and looks the part. Check, check and check. But I fear his first loyalty is to the party and its westside hierarchy, not us.
As for me, I'm backing the woman who is not in lock step with the good ol' boys.
Never miss a local story.
Vote for Jana Holmquist for U.S. Congress.
