I attended a candidate's forum in Pasco last week in which all 12 candidates for the open 4th District seat in the U.S. Congress participated. That forum demonstrated two things: 1) that truly anyone can run for public office in this country, and 2) that the most thoughtful, best educated, most experienced and most compelling individual among them is Estakio Beltran.
Those things, not party labels or other superficial distinctions, are what should earn our votes. Although he grew up in foster care, he earned degrees from Gonzaga and Columbia, and has seven years of experience working with the U.S. Congress under his belt. When asked a question, he responds with articulate, reasoned, and honest answers. His optimism, perseverance and deep belief in our representative form of government are apparent at every encounter.
While the other candidates want to go to Washington, Beltran has already worked there; knows the ropes and the people and is the fresh, innovative voice Eastern Washington needs at this time. This critical moment in our history calls for real skills, substance, vision, and empathy, and Beltran struck me as the only candidate who possesses all those attributes. Join me in voting for Beltran.
