The Herald should be ashamed for reprinting unfounded reputational smears against John Givens. Even the editorial board admitted any inappropriate behavior accusations were more rumor than fact. John was falsely accused by one person, not the port, of having of an improper physical relationship with an employee. The other accused party later defeated that accuser to become a highly regarded Port of Kennewick commissioner.
The Herald, through unsubstantiated port-supplied documents, accused John of being the target of several employee complaints. In reality one employee complaint was filed during John's seven-year executive director term. The person filing the complaint in a letter to the editor said she wished she hadn't done that and that any issues between the two had been settled many years ago and that she fully supports John's campaign.
As for port commissioner controversy, John's campaign is supported by five previous port commissioners, Hanson, Esparza, Dudney, Engelhard and Jones. While Sue Frost isn't supporting either candidate because of close friendships on both campaign sides, she would have nothing but nice things to say about John if asked. John models integrity and is a great family man who doesn't deserve being smeared.
