I have been a resident of Kennewick for more than 36 years and have actively promoted tourism, conventions and sports events as critical components of our local economy.
In the November election, we will have the opportunity to say yes to expansion of the Three Rivers Convention Center to retain and expand this industry to benefit us all. Here's how:
We will remain competitive with other communities in attracting conventions, particularly those conventions which need display space and bring more visitors to town.
The penny increase in sales tax that consumers will pay for a $10 purchase will allow us to finance and pay off the design and construction project. It does not finance operating cost.
Visitors who use local restaurants, stores, hotels and other unique services will be contributing in a two part process. Just like us, the extra penny on a $10 purchase will go toward debt retirement of the project. Second, the balance of their sales tax payments will provide more sales tax revenues for us.
It means more jobs across the entire Tri-Cities so our family members, neighbors and friends will have more opportunities to prosper.
Vote for Proposition 1 -- it benefits all.
DON HART, Kennewick
