Election letter: State Senate -- Benegas
As I re-read the January 18 Tri-City Herald, I noted that appointed Sen. Sharon Brown was reported to once have registered as a Democrat. In another article on July 18, her opponent for state Senate Tony Benegas claimed Brown supported Barack Obama for president in 2008. On Sept. 15, 2011, the Herald reported that Brown told the Mainstream Republican group that she had been asked by the Obama administration to participate in White House conference calls with President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden to discuss the national budget. "I found parts of the plan good, and parts of it not so good," Brown said.
I am deeply dismayed that the Benton County commissioners apparently bowed to pressure from local wealthy groups to appoint a Democrat to a Republican Senate seat. We have a great opportunity to correct this grievous miscarriage and elect someone who has real Republican credentials. That person is Tony Benegas.
Tony Benegas is serving his second term as a West Richland City Council member, and he is on the Washington State Republican Party's executive committee, serving Region 2, after being elected as the Benton County Republican Party's state committeeman.
Never miss a local story.
Please join me in electing Tony Benegas to the Washington State Senate on Aug. 6.
