I'm supporting Brent Gerry for mayor of West Richland.
As a 20-year resident of West Richland, I've watched the population grow from less than 4,000 to 13,000, a 300 plus percent increase.
When I moved into my house off Bombing Range Road, there was no Yoke's Fresh Market, no Gesa branch, no schools and very few parks and recreational facilities. Now look at the area, with Enterprise Middle School, a small business complex, soccer and baseball fields, parks and public spaces.
That's called progress and I say we need more of it. The city needs to revitalize the Van Giesen business corridor and recruit more small businesses in the south end of West Richland. We need more locally owned businesses like Ace Hardware, rather than surrender to Walmart and the big-box stores.
I have been pleased with the way our city council has managed the growth of West Richland. We need to stay the course.
That's why I'm voting Brent Gerry for mayor.
