Last week, as I was approaching where Highway 240 merges with 395 before heading north over the blue bridge, a tan/brown color car slid sideways from 240 across the 395 lane right in front of me, and into the gravel area, doing a 360-degree spin out in the gravel area just missing the guardrail.
If I had been driving a little bit faster that day, I would have been broadsided and became a state statistic. I contacted the state patrol, but never heard back. I contacted the state Department of Transportation about this incident and was told that this has been a problem for a very long time. While I was at the AT&T store, a young man mentioned that the very same thing happened to him a couple of months prior, but very late at night.
Looking at all the black and gravel tire marks at this spot, I guess I’m not alone. The state can only track reported accidents. I would recommend that if others have had the same narrow misses that they contact Ryan [WA State DOT] at (509) 545-2202. The problem seems to be people don’t believe the posted speed limit where 240 merges with 395.
