I am currently a junior and I have experienced the state testing. My biggest concern is how the tests are graded.
I failed my ninth grade Biology EOC and so my parents demanded the state show them my test. The state has not finished grading my test and they gave me a failing score. My parents requested that the test be rescored. A year and a half later and I have not heard from the state of Washington. How is this fair?
They require these tests to graduate, but there is no quality assurance. There is no recourse for help when they mess up, we are just supposed to trust them with our futures. How many students have not graduated because the state didn’t grade them correctly? And parents don’t know how to demand to see these tests, and even then the state may ignore them.
When you look online there are more and more test graders coming out and saying that these tests are not being scored fairly. Don’t believe me? Go to this site http://stateimpact.npr.org/florida/2012/06/04/inside-a-scoring-center-in-the-standardized-testing-industry/. Parents, the community, and even teachers need to stand up and tell the state to stop this testing madness.
