If you live in the Tri-Cities and have children who need to learn to swim to avoid drowning accidents (the kinds we have around here in the rivers/irrigation canals annually) where can you go? For the thousands of children and youth residents of West Richland the answer is ... somewhere else!
We continue to build more schools and homes to meet the demand for families moving to this area of the Tri-(really Quad) Cities. I’ve thought about strategies to get the message across to the West Richland City Council. I’ve already approached them at prior meetings. The response is ... let’s let others do that for us. I’ve thought about going around with a video camera interviewing kids and families ... “Do you want a swimming pool in West Richland?” The answer would be an obvious “Yes! Please! At Bombing Range or Flattop Park!”
We live in the desert; it gets hot here in the summer; kids long to spend time at the pool; it’s a wholesome community activity; it supports safe swimming; it’s a civic service and all the other cities in our area have a public pool. Do I need to collect signatures? Circulate petitions? Let’s vote! Time for a multi-age, fun, public pool in West Richland!
