According to the Tri-City Herald report, last week's multi-car pileup on the blue bridge happened when, "Vehicles heading south on the bridge slowed down for a car that was having mechanical issues ... A cement truck crashed into the back of a Ford van, which was pushed into the rear of a minivan. The minivan was then pushed into the back of a Chevy Tahoe."
While tailgating is, by far, the most obvious cause of pileups like this one, every busy corridor is now packed with cars ignoring the, apparently, obsolete rule about leaving a full second of stopping distance in front of your car at all times. Nervous, toetwitching tailgating is now permitted nationwide, with predictable results.
