Those two words best describe the reasons behind poor voter turnout for elections. Distractions come mostly from the mindless television offerings and seemingly addictive games available on the electronic devices that abound in society today. Oh yes, did I forget to add the newest one -- recreational pot-smoking? Collect up all who are absorbed in those activities and you have eliminated a goodly share of possible voters. And then there is just simply apathy among the "who cares" bunch -- or as Hillary stated, "what difference does it make?"
So, is it really bad that this segment does not express their opinion at voting time? Probably not. But, it is we voters who do care that have to cover for this distracted and apathetic bunch of people. Think how great this country could be if we could even engage and re-program half of these folks.
