This year marks the 31st anniversary of National Night Out, an annual awareness-raising event held the first Tuesday in August. The goal is to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are fighting back. While this one night is certainly not an answer to crime, drugs and violence, National Night Out represents the kind of spirit, energy and determination to help make neighborhoods a safer place year round.
We have wonderful people in law enforcement here in the Tri-Cities and this year, Kennewick, Richland and Pasco police departments are all organizing community outreach events. For locations and event information ,you can contact your local police department or call SARC at 374-5391.
This is a great opportunity for people to promote good community relationships, get to know their neighbors and take a stand against crime.
