There is a third moral deconstruction occurring in our country. It is based on the white Southern strategy of 150 years ago that attacks voting rights, fair taxes, organized labor, women, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, the poor, minorities, public education, civil rights and immigrant rights. It is extreme and immoral.
The philosophy of immoral deconstruction politics is rooted in historical inaccuracy, is constitutionally inconsistent, is morally indefensible and is economically insane. It is damaging the soul of our democracy. And much of the population agrees with the lies, misinformation, hate-mongering and moral corruption this movement embodies.
I lift my voice in strong moral dissent and ask my brothers and sisters to challenge the white Southern strategy and the people who idolize it. It begins by understanding our collective history (not only seen through the lens of wealthy white men), educating ourselves about the issues of our times, having the moral imperative to act on behalf of the greater good and by shaping our public policy to reflect the first moral principal of our Constitution: the establishment of justice for all.
It is time for the abuse of power to end so we can return to our collective moral center.
