In the pursuit of "civil discourse," I believe that the letters to the editor section of the Tri-City Herald is very important. Nevertheless, I am frequently dismayed by the lack of basic information that some of the contributors have regarding the situations they are addressing. The letter published July 24, "Gaza conflict," is a prime example of this situation.
Fortunately, on the following Voices page was an excellent op-ed piece, "Awful truth about Gaza War -- this is just the start." Thank you to the Tri-City Herald for addressing another side of the story with this information.
I respect and appreciate the efforts of our newspaper to present differing positions -- informed and uninformed. Now, we readers are responsible to keep open and informed minds and hearts to discern the differences and to contribute to the "civil discourse" that our neighborhood and world communities so desperately need.
