Jose Aguilar pleaded guilty last week for raping and murdering 9-month-old Serenity Reedy of Richland. Detectives and the prosecutor's office worked aggressively to solve this case.
Benton County Prosecutor Andy Miller accepted the guilty plea only on the condition that Aguilar pleaded guilty as charged to second-degree murder and first-degree child rape. Mr. Miller has recommended that Aguilar be sentenced to an enhanced term of life in prison and with a minimum of 40 years before even being considered for parole.
Nothing can undo the evil brought to this young baby and her family by Aguilar. However, thanks to Mr. Miller, a life sentence will keep this monster off the streets and behind bars where he belongs.
My family has been struggling with the murder of my sister's son. I've spent hours in the courtroom and meeting with Mr. Miller over the past year. We are grateful to Mr. Miller and his staff for the graceful way they have helped our family grieve. I am equally as grateful for the aggressive and tenacious sense of justice Mr. Miller seeks for the victims of crime. He continues to speak in a loud voice for those who have been silenced. Thank you, Andy.
