I shudder to think of all the billions of dollars our government has squandered during the past several years developing, subsidizing and installing wind and solar energy equipment.
These are unreliable, ugly and expensive sources of energy that will never provide a significant part of our energy needs. If this money had been spent developing safe nuclear power, by now we probably could have had a clean, safe, environmental-friendly and cheap operating source of energy that could have supplied our energy needs for decades.
Canada is now building its third generation series of pressurized-tube reactors, which look promising. Then there are other possibilities, such as a sodium-cooled breeder reactors, small modular reactors, gas-cooled reactors, pebble-bed reactors, liquid thorium/fluoride reactors and fusion reactors.
Meanwhile, we could be energy independent and be providing lots of high-paying jobs by using our existing resources and building the XL pipeline.
I'm getting very weary of the environmental whackos trying to control our energy needs and our economy. These people don't seem to have the foggiest notion of the technology they are continually harping on, and the clueless politicians are even worse. Maybe a change in regimes will help bring sanity. We can only hope.
