As a citizen of Richland, I would like to express my support for the proposed road between Steptoe and Leslie. Although it will likely be several years before this road is needed, it's been planned as a road to accommodate future growth and increase connectivity for many years. While I also enjoy the beauty of natural areas, such as the Amon Basin, my understanding is that this road will cross the Amon Basin area, but that the majority of the natural area will remain undisturbed. With the technology we have and a little planning, I have no doubt that the road can be constructed using a minimally invasive process and with a small overall impact to the region.
It is also my understanding that no one has decided where exactly this road will go and that an in-depth study will still need to be conducted. If that is the case, why is everyone up in arms? There clearly will be plenty of opportunity for public input and comments on where and how the road could go.
